KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional MPs have started arriving at Istana Negara for an audience with the King.

BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan and secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir were seen arriving from 10.40am onwards.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun was also seen arriving at 11am.

All the 30 BN MPs were expected to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, following the audience granted to Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

Newly elected MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) have also started arriving at the palace.

The Sarawak coalition had earlier voiced its intention to form the government with PN, BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

However, yesterday, it said it would let the King decide what was best for the people.

Previously, Muhyiddin had said the King had asked PN and PH to work together in forming the government, but PN turned this down. He told a press conference that PN was firm on this stand.

He also insisted that he had the support of 115 MPs to become the prime minister, along with their SDs.

“But when I met (the King), he said this was not enough. I don’t know what was the reason for this, but the proof is there,” he said.

Earlier, Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob said BN’s Supreme Council had made the decision to not back anyone to form the government and will remain in the opposition.
