“If you can’t help out with cash, you can always offer a helping hand”. That has been the adage that has hold renowned philantropist, Ustaz Ebit Lew (UEL) in good stead ever since he started his humanitarian works since small.

“Ever since I was small, an ustaz taught me, if you don’t have money, you can always help out with your time and efforts. This has been my motto and has been my driving motivation to do good until now.

“Despite what has been said in some quarters, I believe that all my actions will be judged by Allah and I will never stop helping out until my last breath,” said UEL in an interview in conjunction with his recent joint fund raising efforts with ShekhinahPR.

UEL, who helms non-governmental agency, Pertubuhan Kasih Umat Malaysia (PKUM) was at ShekhinahPR’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, late Friday night to receive a timely contribution of tablets to be presented to needy students to facilitate their home based Teaching and Learning (pdPR).

ShekhinahPR, donated RM20,000 worth of tablets purchased with a discounted price by Lenovo, who were also part of this historical Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.

This contribution will certainly go a long way towards the intended goal of PKUM to provide 43,000 needy students with a proper device to conduct their pdPR.

Commenting on this maiden collaboration with ShekhinahPR, UEL said it all began when ShekhinahPR Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Christopher Raj began tagging him in tweets after his call for help.

“After my posting on the plight of the students on facebook, I received a total of 40,000 messages requesting for help. Then, I issued a call to help which saw Christopher replying my posts by tagging me in his tweets.

“Later, he got in touch with me and it snowballed from there. I am very grateful to him for providing us with RM20,000 worth of free tablets. He even got in touch with his close friends and corporate partners in getting the tablets at a discounted price.

“Following his tweet, I have been inundated with messages from people from all walks of life who have offered their assistance.

“Although, we are of different race and religion, this is the beauty of Malaysia, where everybody can come together to make a difference.

Christopher on his part, acknowledged everyone who played their part in contributing towards this noble cause and also urged more corporate players to join in to lessen the burden of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) in their humanitarian efforts.

“Firstly, I would like to thank all friends and partners who helped make this fund-raising drive a success. On our part, ShekhinahPR contributed RM20,000 with RM10,000 coming from our side while the remaining RM10,000 coming from our partners towards the purchase of 50 tablets.

“This contribution is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives over the years, which has seen us partnering with many NGOs in conducting their humanitarian activities. Since ShekhinahPR was founded in 2011, we have assisted many NGO’s in conducting their feeding programs for the underprivileged, flood relief efforts among others.

“For this initiative, we worked closely with Ustaz Ebit Lew and we will continue to work with other individuals and NGO’s, especially in these difficult times. I urge more corporate companies to lend their support to lessen the burden faced by Ustaz Ebit Lew and other NGO’s who are now faced with increasing number of requests for people seeking help.
