The PERODUA Malaysia Masters, starting today (May 21), serves as an excellent platform for Malaysia’s top men’s singles player, Lee Zii Jia, to test his abilities in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The tournament features several top-ranked players, including Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen (world no. 4), as well as China’s Li Shi Feng (world no. 6), all of whom will also be competing in Paris. This allows Zii Jia to assess his current performance level against some of the best in the world.

Zii Jia is anticipated to face Antonsen, the tournament’s second seed, in the quarterfinals, provided both players advance through the initial rounds.

The former Asian champion expressed his readiness and high motivation to start his campaign at the Malaysia Masters.

“Currently, I’m in good shape and very motivated. I don’t want to overthink the draw or other factors; instead, I’ll focus on one match at a time,” he said.

Zii Jia’s best performance at the PERODUA Malaysia Masters came in 2020 when he reached the semifinals.

Last year, he was eliminated in the second round after losing to Taiwan’s Lin Chun Yi.

In addition, Zii Jia enters the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2024 with a confidence boost, having recently returned from Bangkok where he won the Thailand Open last Sunday.
