Puchong United BC fends off its nemesis with ease
SHAH ALAM (1 OCTOBER 2022): The sixth edition of the SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 kicked off in style as Puchong United BC displayed a convincing performance in their opening match against Serdang BC. The defending champions got off to an explosive start in the tournament after making short work of Serdang BC 14-6 in their opening game at the Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam today.
Lim Chi Wing who won a silver medal in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games made a stellar start for Puchong United BC when he overcame his opponent Too Ming Yap 10-11, 11-8, 11-2 and 11-8 in the opening game.
Puchong United BC’s smashing form was halted in the second match as elite shuttler Sonia Cheah fell to Serdang BC’s Burmese shuttler Thet Htar Thuzar 9-11 11-8 10-11 11-3 6-11 in 13 minutes in the women’s singles category.
Commending on her match winning performance, Thuzar said, “This is not an easy victory for me especially going against such an experienced opponent like Sonia. Despite my injury, I’m happy with my performance and this victory has boosted my confidence to fight for my team in our upcoming match against Sena Bangkok Club.”
The tables were quickly turned in the third match when Puchong United BC’s Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi inspired an influential win against Booh Xin Yuan-Wong Tien Chi 11-7 11-3 5-11 11-6.
Tan Kian Meng-Goh Liu Ying ended Serdang BC’s hopes of a comeback when the mixed doubles pair defeated Nuraidil Adha Azman-Lim Chew Sien 3-1 (6-11,11-6, 11-8, 11-9).
The victorious Tan Kian Meng who partnered with Goh Liu Ying said, “To be honest, we’re yet to find our proper rhythm as a pair. However, I must thank Liu Ying for rendering her experience in order for us to triumph against our opponent in this crucial match.”
Puchong United BC sealed their victory in style when experienced shuttler Liew Daren defeated Choo Qai King in straight sets 11-2 11-3 11-5 in the men’s singles.
The sixth edition of the SENHENG redONE Purple League is scheduled to take off at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam on 1st to 6th of October. The Grand Finals will be held at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on 8th to 9th of October.
