KUALA LUMPUR (13 DECEMBER 2019): The FIA World Touring Car Cup 2019 is set to make its debut in Malaysia when the final round of the series will take place at Sepang International Circuit, this weekend.
Malaysia’s very own, Mitchell Cheah is set to make his debut as well in the series and will team up with Motogp Rider, Hafizh Syahrin who have been handed wildcards entries for the Malaysia leg. Both of them will be driving Hyundai i30 N TCR cars, run by Hyundai Team Engstler.
Mitchell is no stranger to the touring car scene, having competed in the full season of ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship this year with several podium finishes and rookie awards added to his resume. The young driver also took part in TCR Asia Series last year which he finished second in the overall standings.
“I think it is going to be an exciting weekend. I have been preparing mentally for this race since its announcement earlier this year. This is my first time racing a Hyundai and hopefully we will get a good result especially in front of Malaysian crowd.” Said Mitchell who determine to secure the top-10 finish.
“Having been driving in this track (Sepang International Circuit) for more than five years, I am very confident I can get something out of it. The drivers for this year’s series are outstanding. A simple mistake can throw your chances out the window. I am going to need my 100% focus throughout the race and be as consistent as possible to challenge these guys.” added Mitchell.
The FIA World Touring Car Cup 2019 is an international touring car championship as the highest class of competition for touring car. The Malaysia leg of the series will be the series finale and will be supporting the FIM Endurance World Championship.
