KUALA LUMPUR (24 SEPTEMBER 2019): Terengganu advanced to the semi-finals of the 2019 TNB Tun Abdul Razak Cup after defeating Pahang 2-1 in their final group B match on Tuesday.
Terengganu, who finished as the runner-up last year’s edition, started off well with an early goal through Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook in the 6th minute and a penalty corner from Mohamad Shazwi Rani. Pahang then retaliated during the final stages of the match but it was too late for them to get back on track.
Another group B match witnessed Kuala Lumpur’s struggle as they were forced to share their points with Penang in 3-3 draw. This result is enough to ensure Kuala Lumpur becoming the group B champions with 7 points.
The sole match in group A ended in a 5-5 draw between Johor and Melaka, ensuring both the teams with 5 points and a slot to the semifinals.
In the Division 2 match, Selangor maintained their unbeaten record and strengthened their hold after defeating Kelantan 3-1.
Abdul Rauf Mohd Nazri’s brace through a penalty corner secured a win for S. Prakash’s squad.
Perlis and Kedah were forced to share their points as they drew 2-2 decision while Negeri Sembilan recorded a 3-2 victory over ATM.
In the women’s category, Selangor maintained their unbeaten record in Group B as they secured a 1-0 win over ATM through a goal by Aina Zafifah Mohd Razali to emerge as group winners while ATM remained in second place and also qualified to the semis.
Meanwhile, Melaka established a 2-1 victory over Terengganu in another Group B match through goals from Nurul Fezah Khalim and Nur Aisyah Yaacop.
Moving on to group A, Kuala Lumpur and the PDRM secured a place in the semi-finals following their victory over their opponents.
Hazatul Hudzra Abd Razak’s late goal helped Kuala Lumpur defeat Johor 2-1 while ATM did not have to struggle despite trailing behind before defeating Penang 2-1.
