KUALA LUMPUR (16 December 2021): Petaling Jaya BC are ready to smash their competition aside as they prepare for this year’s Top Glove Purple League Pro-Am 2021 (TGPLPA) tournament. The tournament, which is less than a week away is set to for an explosive start with top teams competing on the opening day.
Founded in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur in 2014, Petaling Jaya BC will fancy their odds of a stellar start to the tournament as they face Bandar Maharani BC on the first day.
According to Petaling Jaya BC’s team manager, Yeo Seow Chung, “The players are training hard. I can see them putting in effort during the sparring sessions and I always remind them that they have a chance to play for Malaysia in the future” Regarding their expectations in this year’s TGPLPA, he said “We are aiming for a spot in the semi-finals, however it will be a tough fight especially against opponents like Butterworth BC, as previous BAM players have joined them”.
Nevertheless, Yeo Seow Chung is confident in his own firepower, Kasturi Radhakrishnan and Venosha Radhakrishnan, who were the runner-up in the women’s doubles category at the 2021 Bangladesh International Challenge. According to the pair, “Although the other teams are strong, we are prepared to give our best and deliver some points to our team as much as we can.”
Yeo Seow Chung also sang praises of the Malaysia Purple League (MPL) and its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ho Khek Mong for offering such a platform to further elevate Malaysia’s badminton industry. He added “The MPL platform offers prospects for the expansion of the badminton industry by developing and enhancing the talents of Malaysian badminton players which increases the standard of competitive badminton in the country”.
Petaling Jaya BC will be prepared to face the heat as they scramble for the top 2 spots in Group B with Ampang Jaya BC, Jinjang BC, Rawang BC and Bandar Maharani BC. Should they qualify for the semi-finals, they will face either Butterworth BC, DSBC Labuan, Bangi City BC, Seremban City BC and Serdang BC which will be battling each other for the top 2 spots in Group A.
The TGPLPA will be held from Dec 21-26 at the Kompleks Kejiranan Presint 11 in Putrajaya. The 10 teams will compete in a single round-robin format in their respective groups and the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
