KUALA LUMPUR (13 December 2021): Top seeded Butterworth BC are ready to prove their worth as they prepare to leave nothing in the tank at the Top Glove Purple League Pro-Am (TGPLPA) 2021 which kicks off on the 21st of December.
Butterworth BC was established in 2020 and are aiming for top honours in their inaugural TGPLPA this year. According to Butterworth BC’s team manager, Tommy Lee Sau Wah, “We are lucky to be the top seed in the TGPLPA and are aiming for a spot in the semi-finals. That would be a good achievement for us.”
He added, “All the other teams which are competing are very strong and I’m expecting my players to give their very best in this tournament.”
With appetizing fixtures in place, the TGPLPA 2021 is set to excite many badminton enthusiasts in the country and will be a breeding ground for upcoming young talents in the sport. Tommy Lee Sau Wah was grateful to the Malaysia Purple League (MPL) and its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ho Khek Mong for establishing the Pro-Am platform. He claimed, “They are doing a great job in preparing such a platform to foster young players in the country. I hope that this platform will continue to grow over the next couple of years as it has benefited many young players”.
Butterworth BC, which prides itself on being northern tough, will face DSBC Labuan, Bangi City BC, Seremban City BC, and Serdang BC in Group A. They will fancy their chances of facing either highfliers Ampang Jaya BC, Jinjang BC, Petaling Jaya BC, Rawang BC and Bandar Maharani BC which will be battling each other for the top 2 spots in Group B.
The TGPLPA will be held from Dec 21-26 at the Kompleks Kejiranan Presint 11 in Putrajaya. The 10 teams will compete in a single round-robin format in their respective groups and the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
