BERA: Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) recorded growth of 14.2% in the third quarter of this year and is proof of the government’s success in driving economic recovery efforts following the Covid-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
He said the figure also disproved claims that the government had failed to bring about positive changes to the economy.
He said the strengthening GDP was driven by the reopening of economic sectors in tandem with the transition to the endemic phase of the Covid-19 outbreak, which had encouraged private consumption and the labour market.
“The 14.2% growth rate is more rapid than the 8.9% recorded in the second quarter and 5% in the first.
“The same goes with the unemployment rate which has fallen to 3.6% in September, compared to 4.8% in August last year (when he was appointed prime minister),” he told reporters after a visit to the Kampung Bongok Orang Asli settlement here today.
