KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya will discuss the possibility of allowing interstate travel “in the next few days”, tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri said.
She also said her ministry has identified several tourism destinations – on the mainland and islands – that would be able to attract tourists when interstate travel is allowed.
The destinations include Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands and Frasier’s Hill, which are currently, restricted to intrastate guests.
“In two to three days’ time, we will be discussing allowing interstate travel,” she told the Dewan Rakyat today when responding to a supplementary question by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent-Muar) on opening more travel bubbles and not limiting them to islands.
Langkawi recently opened its doors to fully vaccinated domestic tourists as part of a pilot travel bubble project.
Nancy said tourism was about mobility and it could only happen when people could move about to help improve the economy.
“And that is what we want. Our agenda is to help those in this sector (the tourism industry) who have been affected by the pandemic.”
