MALACCA (9 JANUARY 2022): Smashing Perling Badminton Club got off to a flying start in their AEON Credit Purple League Junior 2021-2022 (ACPLPJ) campaign when they clinched their ticket in style to next month’s grand finals.

The southern club side’s Under-15 squad grabbed two emphatic victories over Mentakab BC (15-0) and Seremban City BC (13-4) to top the charts with the highest accumulated points (332-163) in the opening leg of the two-day tournament held at the Smazh Premium Outlet here in Malacca.

The seventh edition of the AEON Credit Purple League Junior 2021-2022 (ACPLPJ) got off to an explosive start with eight teams qualifying for the grand finals after the first leg held in Malacca. The qualified 8 teams consist of the best 4 teams from both the under 15 & 18 categories.

Perling BC coach, Albert Lim was satisfied with the team’s performance in the two-day competition. He said, “I am delighted to see the players play their hearts out. However, I prefer not to be overconfident as we have yet to face the bigger opponents.”

“But rest assured we will continue to train hard to face the top guns in the grand finals. First, we have to advance to the semi-finals before we can think of going to the final,” added Albert.

Perling BC’s mixed doubles pair of Dania Sofea and Tania Nair are hoping their teammates will remain focused ahead of the upcoming finals in February. “We hope we can maintain our momentum and also focus on giving our best in the finals.”

Besides Perling BC, the other teams who qualified from the Under-15 category are Segamat Spiritual BC, powerhouse Damansara BC and WCBF Sibu.

A sheer masterclass performance from Ampang Jaya BC them seal their grand finals ticket from the Under 18 Category, alongside with title competitors DSBC Labuan, AKSC and Damansara BC.

The second leg of the ACPLPJ will commence at the Sixbase Sport Arena, Kampar from Jan 15-16 while the third leg is scheduled at the Tops Arena Empire in Cheras from Jan 22-23 before the Grand Finale from Feb 19-20. The venue for the final stage has yet to be confirmed.
