PETALING JAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says Tambun will be the new base for his political work if he wins the parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
“Insya Allah, if I win Tambun on Nov 19, Tambun will be my base,” he said at a Pakatan Harapan event in Ipoh yesterday.
Anwar dismissed rumours that his political career would be destroyed if he contested in Tambun, adding that he has faith in the people’s wisdom to decide for themselves.
He also said he hopes to transform Tambun into a major tourist destination should he be given the mandate by the people.
“When I was checking out the place, I thought to myself that it is such a beautiful place with lots of potential. Give me the chance to push for Tambun to be a major destination for tourism,” he said.
On Oct 20, Anwar announced that he will contest the Tambun parliamentary seat, where he is expected to face Ahmad Faizal Azumu, the Bersatu deputy president.
Faizal won the seat in GE14 by contesting under PKR’s ticket. He won by a 5,320-vote majority, defeating Barisan Nasional and PAS.
