PBM sacks Zuraida, 10 others

PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia has sacked Zuraida Kamaruddin and 10 others after they failed to respond to show cause letters issued earlier this month.

The party’s disciplinary committee said the 11, which also include those in the top leadership such as secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad, and Youth chief Na’im Brundage were sacked effective today.

Meanwhile, Haniza Talha and Daroyah Alwi were removed as the party’s deputy president and Wanita chief respectively but did not have their memberships terminated.

In a statement, the party’s disciplinary committee said it terminated the membership of the 11 when they failed to respond despite being “given the opportunity to explain and defend themselves”.

“Therefore, in the party’s interests, the disciplinary committee has decided that the membership of these individuals be terminated effective immediately.”

The announcement came following weeks of infighting between party president Larry Sng and the party’s 11 Supreme Council members who were suspended in October for alleged indiscipline.

Other party leaders who have been sacked are vice-presidents Rahimah Majid, Dr Sathiskumar Govindaraju, Saiful Bahari Sahari and information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid.

Other Supreme Council members who have been given the boot are Ab Aziz Ab Kadir, Zakaria Abdul Rahim, Roger Tan and Albacore Salim.

Zuraida and Haniza have been openly critical of Sng’s leadership in the past few days.

Zuraida rebuked Sng for contradicting a resolution by the party’s Supreme Council to appoint her as president. She also criticised the Julau MP over the way he was managing the party, calling him “immature and arrogant”.

Meanwhile, Haniza accused him of acting unilaterally in deciding to join the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. She also urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to investigate his legitimacy as party president as she claimed that the party’s top leadership had “fully rejected” his presidency.

In response to the barrage of criticisms, Sng urged both leaders and their allies to quit the party and “do some soul-searching”.

He also revealed a document with the terms and conditions signed by Zuraida – who joined PBM after quitting Bersatu in May – last month, which stipulated that she must affirm his presidency.
