KUALA KANGSAR (29 Sept) – The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), the host team, lived up to the hype in an electrifying showdown against Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abi (SMK ABI) during the opening match of Group C at the 11th MCKK Rugby Premier 7s (P7s) championship, held at the MCKK field today. Despite facing an early setback, MCKK, a former champion in 2013, pulled off a thrilling 19-12 victory.
In a surprising turn of events, SMK ABI took the lead in the first half with two tries and a conversion, leaving MCKK trailing 0-12. However, in the second half, MCKK made a remarkable comeback, scoring three tries and converting two to secure a total of 19 points.
Coach Mohd. Romli Saad of MCKK expressed his astonishment at his team’s initial performance, especially the 12-0 deficit. He noted, “In the second half, I urged the players to regain their focus and fight for the win. Fortunately, they delivered a stellar performance, securing a well-deserved 19-12 victory.”
In the opening match of Group A, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan Tiga (ARAS) dominated Sekolah Kebangsaan King George V (KGV), winning convincingly with a score of 36-0.
ARAS displayed absolute dominance throughout the match, leaving KGV struggling to match their pace and skill.
Meanwhile, in the Group B opener, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hosba (SMKH) faced little resistance as they comfortably defeated Maktab Sabah Kota Kinabalu (SCKK) with an impressive score of 41-5.
In Group D action, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SHOAW) easily overcame the challenge posed by Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR), securing a resounding 29-0 victory.
In Group E, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King Edward VII (KEVII) had a relatively smooth run, effortlessly defeating Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman (ART) with a final score of 17-7.
In the Group F matchup, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Telok Mas (SMKTM) staged a remarkable comeback from behind, narrowly defeating Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Yahya Petra 1 (SSYP1) with a final score of 17-15.
The 11th edition of the MCKK Rugby Premier 7s (P7s) championship features a total of 24 teams and will run from today until Sunday.
