The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) is thrilled to announce the return of the prestigious MCKK Premier 7s Rugby Tournament, taking place from June 28 to June 30, 2024. This highly anticipated event marks the tournament’s 12th edition and promises to be a spectacular showcase of young rugby talent from across the globe.

MCKK Premier 7s is pleased to announce Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PERNAS) as its title sponsor for this year. PERNAS, an agency under the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOF Inc), under supervision of Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD) is dedicated to lead the development of Malaysia’s franchise industry. This partnership highlights PERNAS’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship and excellence in youth rugby.

We are proud to continue our strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the MCKK Premier 7s. This enduring collaboration reflects our joint commitment to the development of youth and sports in Malaysia. The Ministry’s ongoing support is instrumental in expanding the tournament’s scope and enhancing its impact. Together, we remain dedicated to cultivating the future stars of rugby, fostering sportsmanship, and instilling enduring values among our youth.

This year’s tournament will feature fierce competition with 24 participating schools, including international teams from Japan, Indonesia, and Chinese-Taipei. These teams will be vying for the coveted NJ Ryan Trophy and the Zaharuddin Alias Best Player Award, adding a global dimension to the competition that sports fans eagerly anticipate.

The three-day event will see the return of former champions such as SMK Jalan Tiga (ARAS), Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (EC) Johor Bahru, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI), and the host team, MCKK. Other formidable contenders, including Royal Military College (MTD), SMK Victoria (VI) Kuala Lumpur, and Sultan Alam Shah School (SAS) Putrajaya, will also compete for the championship crown, ensuring a thrilling tournament.

The MCKK Premier 7s has been instrumental in inspiring young rugby players to showcase their talents. Fans nationwide eagerly await the return of this championship, renowned for its competitive spirit and high level of play.

Last year’s edition was a thrilling surprise for everyone as SMK Jalan Tiga (ARAS) clinched the championship title in their debut appearance, stunning the crowd with a commanding 24-0 victory over Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (SSMP) in the final.

This tournament aims to elevate the standard of rugby at the school level, nurturing the next generation of rugby stars. Beyond fostering teamwork, it emphasizes instilling values of sincerity and honesty among youth, contributing to the holistic development of young athletes.

The MCKK Premier 7s not only highlights the athletic prowess of its participants but also showcases the beauty of Malaysia. Kuala Kangsar, the Royal City in Perak, will attract both international and local visitors, boosting the local economy and enhancing the tourism sector.
