Mitchell ends season on a high

KUALA LUMPUR (16 DECEMBER 2019): It was a moment to remember for Malaysian youngster, Mitchell Cheah, who took part in the FIA World Touring Car Cup 2019 which made its debut on Malaysian shores last weekend at the Sepang International Circuit.

Mitchell, who partnered up with MotoGP rider, Hafizh Syahrin were handed wildcard entries for the Malaysia leg and drove for Hyundai Team Engstler. The series ended well for both of them especially for Mitchell who was also making his debut in the series as well.

Mitchell was satisfied with his overall performance and is looking forward to get behind the wheel for next year.

The first race saw Mitchell who was hit by a fever earlier that day, ended the race in 19th spot but managed to bounce back for the second race where he notched up a 16th spot finish and claimed the best wildcard driver title for that round. In the third and final race of the series, Mitchell once again ended the round in 19th spot after spinning his car at the last corner of the race.

Speaking after the race, Mitchell was satisfied with his overall performance and is looking forward to get behind the wheel for next year. “I am very happy with my overall performance for this year’s WCTR series. For Hafizh, even though it was his first time in the car, he was very impressive and surprised everyone.

“I am definitely happy with the best wildcard win. It was a good result for us as a team. The other wildcard drivers were all good as well. I was happy with the day as a whole as we did not make any mistakes, except in race three where I tried to overtake a car and spun at the last corner which resulted me in losing 10-15 seconds. After this race, I will take a short break and I am looking forward to another eventful race calendar next year.” added Mitchell.

The Malaysia leg of the FIA World Touring Car Cup 2019 was also the final showdown of the series which saw Hungrarian’s Norbert Michelisz of the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse crowned Champion with 372 points followed by Esteban Guerrieri (Argentina) with 349 points ahead of Yvan Muller who completed the top three of the overall standings with 331 points.
