KUALA LUMPUR (3 April 2020): Following an extraordinary successful debut season last year with eRacing Grand Prix SEA (eRGP SEA), it was only logical that Axle Motorsport takes the next giant leap towards revolutionizing eRacing by introducing the all-new eRGP SEA – Global Edition, where the best simulator race car drivers from around the region take on the best drivers from the Asia Pacific region.
The eRGP SEA – Global Edition, a six-round series, boasts a brand-new format consisting two classes – GT3 and GT4.
The GT3 is the professional class where the drivers will be steering heavily modified supercars likes Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes or BMW.
This class will feature the best professional race car drivers from around the world with the likes of Edoardo Mortara (Formula E), Yann Ehrlacher (WTCR) and Arjun Maini (Formula 2) going head-to-head. The drivers in this category will be divided into two groups with the top-10 from each group qualifying for the final round.
As for the GT4, it is the Am class where drivers who are not so highly-ranked, compete against each other in the less modified GT cars (BMW M6, KTM X Bow). The aim of this category is to encourage new drivers into simulator racing and to learn in an environment with less pressure.
Malaysia’s former Formula One driver Alex Yoong, founder of Axle Motorsport, is impressed with the quality of the drivers who have signed up for this edition despite the current situation where the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a temporary halt to the motor racing season worldwide which will deprive motor racing fans of their usual dose of thrills and spills.
“With the success of last year’s championship, we had always planned to do more online racing and, ironically, the COVID-19 crises has forced us to adapt quickly.” said Alex. “We are really pleased with the quality of drivers signing up as they recognise our platform as being a quality one.”
Alex added: “Let’s also not forget our tagline of #virtualtoreality in that we try to realise the dreams of our participants in getting them into real race cars one day. This is one of the ways for us to make sure that everyone stays at home and at the same time you still can enjoy racing with your simulator.”
Winner of the GT3 class and the best young driver (aged 16-20) will be rewarded with a real test session in a genuine race car with one of the region’s best, Black Arts Racing, as part of the F3 team’s early preparations for their upcoming season. The GT4 class winner will receive a complimentary class with Axle Motorsport Academy and exclusive merchandise.
Drivers who are interested to compete are required to undergo qualifying rounds through weekly leaderboards on RaceRoom which opens on Monday and closes on Thursday every week. Practice sessions with each of the qualified drivers are scheduled for every Friday between 5.0pm and 7.0pm.
