KUALA LUMPUR (1 APRIL 2021): After last year’s successful debut of eRacing GP’s online competitions, Axle Sports returns with Global Edition 5 on April 3, where the best simulator racers from around the region will compete against each other and some of the best real-life Asian drivers.
With the aim to elevate the competitive level among its participants, Axle Sports intends to upgrade its quadruple-based championship by exhibiting renowned powered racecars for each of its race categories – Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper.
Under the Gold and Silver categories, drivers will be steering heavily on DTM 2016’s modified supercars from manufacturers such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi. Bronze category drivers will compete in Formula 3 single seaters, while in the Copper category for beginners, drivers will compete in a less modified Aquila CR1 racecar. The Copper category was introduced to ease new drivers into the world of simulator racing and hone their skills in a less pressured environment.
Malaysia’s former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong, founder of Axle Sports, was impressed with the quality of drivers who participated in previous races. Taking the competition online and opening it to the region has allowed Axle Sports to discover even more talent.
“After the success of 2019’s eRacing GP Malaysia championship, we had always planned to do more online racing and, ironically, COVID-19 forced us to adapt quickly.” said Alex. “We are really pleased with the quality of drivers and have witnessed massive improvement in the level of their driving and professionalism.
“Let’s also not forget our tagline of #virtualtoreality in that we try to realize the dreams of our participants in getting them into real race cars one day.”
The winner or most promising driver online will be trained by Axle Sports to race, and hopefully, compete on track in a real race car.
Winners in all categories will also receive prizes sponsored by Royal Selangor and exclusive eRacing GP t-shirts.
Drivers who are interested in competing in eRacing GP’s Global Edition 5 are required to undergo qualifying rounds on RaceRoom through weekly leaderboards which open on Mondays and close on Thursdays.
Earlier this year, Axle Sports launched eRacing GP’s Endurance Edition which runs on the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform. The last round, held on March 21, saw up to 50 supercars line up on the grid for a 4-hour endurance race. Winners in the Endurance Edition will also receive prizes sponsored by Royal Selangor.
