PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles world champions Aaron Chia-Sooh Wooi Yik failed to reach the knock-out stage of the World Tour Finals after losing 21-23, 24-22, 16-21 to China pair Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi in a Group B match in Bangkok on Thursday (Dec 8).
They needed to beat Yuchen-Xuanyi to keep their semi-final hopes alive after losing to Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in their opening match on Wednesday.
Aaron-Wooi Yik still have a match to play against Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark on Friday (Dec 9) but the result will not help the Malaysians’ cause.
Independent pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi stayed in the hunt for a place in the men’s doubles semi-finals when they beat Choi Sol-gyu-Kim Won-ho of South Korea 21-17, 23-21 in Group A.
