KUALA LUMPUR (13 January 2022): Ace shuttler K. Yeshveenii will spearhead Bagan Badminton Club’s challenge for honours when the second-leg of the AEON Credit Purple League Junior 2021/2022 (ACPLJ) tournament gets under way at the Sixbase Sport Arena in Kampar this weekend.
The AEON Credit Purple League Junior 2019 Division 3 champions will be bolstered by most of the players who competed in the previous edition, including Yeshveenii who will be leading the assault in the women’s singles Under-18 category.
Yeshveenii said the team have prepared well and are ready for action. “We will be no pushovers and are no strangers in top level meets. All the players have pledged to give their best to deliver the points,” said Yeshveenii who represented for Rawang BC in last month’s Top Glove Purple League Pro-Am 2021 (TGPLPA).
Bagan BC with a strong field of players fancy their chances of booking an early ticket to the grand finals next month. Founded as an academy under the wings of the Penang Indian Badminton Association, Bagan BC are seen as one of the early favourites to clinch the 2021/2022 ACPLJ title this year.
Team manager M. Durairajoo has urged the players not to rest on their laurels and be mentally prepared for the new challenge ahead of them. He said they should not take their previous accomplishments for granted.
“We have high expectations on our players for the ACPLJ this year. They have been training hard and I can see their desire to replicate their success in 2019. But it is important they must not take their previous success for granted and look forward to the new challenge”.
The club from the northwest coast will face their neighbour’s Penang Pesta BC, Setia Alam BC, and Ayer Hitam BC in Group A for the U-18 category.
The ACPLJ will be played over 3 group stages and culminating with the grand finals (Jan-Feb). A total of 38 teams will be divided into groups and will play on a round-robin format during the qualifying stages.
The top 4 teams from each leg will then proceed to play in the grand finals.
As the first leg concluded last week in Malacca, the second leg of the ACPLPJ will commence at the Sixbase Sport Arena, Kampar from Jan 15-16 while the third leg is scheduled at the Tops Arena Empire in Cheras from Jan 22-23 before the Grand Finals from Feb 19-20. The venue for the final stage has yet to be confirmed.
