DOMINANT SENA BANGKOK CLUB BRUSHES HO CHI MINH CITY BC ASIDE AT THE SENHENG REDONE PURPLE LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL 2022

SHAH ALAM (2 OCTOBER 2022): Sena Bangkok Club came out victors in the battle of southeast asia’s “El Classico” on the second day of the SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) tournament in Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam today.

Sena Bangkok Club brushed aside their nemesis Ho Chi Minh City BC 13-9 and kept up the chase in their bid to finish top of Group A after witnessing their rivals Puchong United BC defeating Serdang BC 14-6 in their opening tie yesterday.

The limelight of the day was stolen by the world’s 12th ranked Busanan Ongbamrungphan who perilously outclassed Ho Chi Minh City BC’s Vu Thi Anh Thu 11-7 11-2 8-11 6-11 2-1 in the women’s singles category.

The delighted Busanan who recently triumphed in the 2022 Swiss Open said “though I feel very exhausted today, I am happy that I have managed to give my best in this game. I expect to retain the same momentum as today throughout the tournament. I also hope that I can contribute more points to my team by winning my upcoming matches.”

Ho Chi Minh City BC started off brilliantly as their men’s singles stalwart Nguyen Hai Dang defeated Sena Bangkok Clubs’s Kachain Buarung 8-11, 11-10, 4-11,11-2,11-2.

However, the team from the land of the “ascending dragon” Vietnam were stopped in their tracks when their men’s doubles pair Nguyen Duc Hong Phuc – Tran Nguyen Chi Tung lost to Kittisak Namdash-Pongsakorn Thongkham 3-11, 9-11, 7-11 in the third game following Busanan Ongbamrungphan’s win in the second game.

Sena Bangkok Club shattered Ho Chi Minh City BC’s chances of overturning their fortunes in the fourth game when their dynamic pair Yap Qar Siong- Atitaya Povanon defeated Nguyen Anh Gia Huy- Lam My Tien 10-11 11-6 11-9 11-3 in the mixed doubles category.

The team which hails from the land of “white elephants” Thailand went on to seal their victory with an overall game score of 13-9 despite elite shuttler Kittipong Imnark losing to Ho Chi Minh City BC’s 2013 Guangzhou World Championship bronze medallist, Nguyen Tien Minh 2-11 11-8 7-11 11-6 8-11 in the men’s singles category.

Meanwhile, the final game of yesterday’s fixture saw Petaling BC overpowered Ampang Jaya BC 10-8 to heat up the top 2 race in Group A. The second day of SRPLP will conclude with powerhouse team Candra Wijaya BC facing Singapore Badminton Team in a mouth-watering match at 6:00 pm.

The sixth edition of the SENHENG redONE Purple League will continue to take place at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam from the 1st to 6th of October. The Grand Finals will be held at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on 8th to 9th of October.
