Stalwart shuttlers stepped up their games to provide Petaling BC its second consecutive win
SHAH ALAM (3 OCTOBER 2022): The SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) kept all those who were at the venue contented as Petaling BC extended their winning streak after beating Singapore Badminton Team (15-3) in Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam today.
The limelight of the day was stolen by Malaysia’s very own paralympic gold medallist Cheah Like Hou who easily outclassed Singapore Badminton Team’s Marcus Phil Lau Jun Hui 11-9 11-9 11-9 in straight sets in the men’s singles category.
The jubilant Cheah Like Hou who recently excelled with a bronze winning performance in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games said “this is my first time playing against this opponent from Singapore and I’m glad that I have analysed his game against Candra Wijaya BC yesterday as it has allowed me to emerge victorious against this highly prospective young talent. On top of that, I am happy that I have managed to give my best in this game, and I expect to retain the same momentum as today throughout the tournament by contributing more points for my team in the upcoming matches.”
Petaling BC’s smashing form continued in the second match as Chinese Taipei’s 39 world ranked elite shuttler Pai Yu Po smashed Singapore Badminton Team’s Megan Lee Xinyi 11-8 10-11 11-8 11-10 in a lengthy 32 minutes in the women’s singles category.
Meanwhile, the third match of the entertaining fixture saw 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist, Goh V Shem partnering with Low Juan Shen to tame Singapore Badminton Team’s Donovan Willard Wee-Loh Kean Hean 11-7 11-9 11-7 in 20 minutes in the men’s doubles category.
Commending on their match winning performance, the dynamic pair said, “This is not an easy victory for us especially going against a tactically strong opponent like Donovan Willard Wee-Loh Kean Hean. Even though we are yet to find a proper rhythm as a pair, we are still happy with our performance, and we are looking forward to fight for our team in our upcoming match against Candra Wijaya Badminton Club.”
Petaling Badminton Club shattered Singapore Badminton Team’s chances of overturning their fortunes in the fourth game when their empowering pair Ng Eng Cheong- Lai Pei Jing defeated Johann Prajogo-Ho Lo Ee 11-7 11-9 11-4 in the mixed doubles category.
The victorious Ng Eng Cheong who partnered with the 2014 & 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lai Pei Jing said, “To be honest, I felt really nervous and pressured to be paired along with such an experienced player like Pei Jing. However, I must thank Pei Jing for overcoming my nervousness while rendering her experience in order for us to triumph against our opponent in this crucial match.”
Petaling BC went on to seal their victory with an overall game score of 15-3 in style when elite French shuttler Brice Leverdez defeated Singapore Badminton Team’s Malaysian shuttler, Lim Ming Hong 9-11 7-11 11-10 11-6 10-5 in a fiery 38 minute match in the men’s singles category.
Meanwhile, the final game of yesterday’s fixture saw Candra Wijaya BC overpowered Singapore Badminton Team 12-2 to heat up the top 2 race in Group B. The third day of SRPLP will conclude today with Ampang Jaya attempting to make amends to their opening day defeat by facing powerhouse team Candra Wijaya BC in a crucial match at 8:00 pm.
The sixth edition of the SENHENG redONE Purple League will continue to take place at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam from the 1st to 6th of October. The Grand Finals will be held at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on 8th to 9th of October.
