KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Kim Pan Gon will use Malaysia’s friendly matches against Cambodia today and the Maldives on Wednesday as an experiment before setting any target for the AFF Cup.
The South Korean said the new faces in his training squad need to be tested in the friendlies for him to see whether they can fit into his plans.
So far, Pan Gon said he is pleased with the progress the new national trainees.
“We shared a lot of information on our game module and planning,” he said.
Meanwhile Cambodia coach Ryu Hirose said: “The Cambodian Premier League just finished on Saturday, and the players immediately went into camp. So it’s a short amount of time to prepare.
“We had plans to play other teams but unfortunately we couldn’t make it.”
He added that the legendary Keisuke Honda is still with the Cambodian team as a coach, but is unavailable for the friendly against Malaysia. He will only join Cambodia for the AFF Cup.
