Strong weekend for Volkswagen Team Oettinger with Rookie win at Hockenheim

A rookie victory and another solid points weekend for Mitchell Cheah at Rounds 11 & 12 of the ADAC TCR Germany at Hockenheimring, the penultimate race weekend for 2019 season. Kai Jordan stepped in to race in the second car, his second appearance at a race weekend, finishing 14th in a stiffly contested Series.

Cheah started both races from 11th on the grid after a tough Qualifying session. The Sepang International Circuit Talent Development Program driver started the race well and did not aver in his drive, keeping his head down while trading places with fellow junior driver several times over the race duration. Cheah’s consistent pace allowed him to take the class win, his third of the season. Round 12 was a solid outing for the youngster in a much cleaner but battle filled race on Sunday afternoon.

The Malaysian was in the mix with fellow junior drivers from the start, finishing a solid 9 th overall, third in class. “This week we struggled a little in the beginning to find the right setup but we managed to make big improvements in time for qualifying but it just wasn’t enough to keep up with the others. “The first race I had a good opportunity to finish top rookie, and that was what I was aiming for, and we managed to do so.

The win was definitely one for the team for all the hard work they put in throughout this whole week. “I had a good start in race two but midway through the race I had some issues, not sure what it was but I just had no pace from there and was struggling through to the end. “Overall we knew this weekend would be tough but we managed to collect good points for the team and in the Rookie Championship we are still in the fight for it for the last round” ended Cheah.

Volkswagen Team Oettinger Team Manager, Kai Jordan, was full of praises for the 21-year old, “Mitch had two perfectly implemented races this weekend and we are happy that he was able to race a strong race and was rewarded with a Rookie win for his efforts. The filed was very strong and he managed himself really well and we are all proud of him. Thank you to the team for a brilliant job”. Jordan was pulling double duties over the weekend, competing in the #50 Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR SEQ and finishing both races in 14th. “Well, I am always happy when I am able to start a race myself.

The ADAC TCR Germany is a lot of fun and the car is just great to race in. It’s my second race weekend this season and I am happy with the outcome of the race” ended Jordan. Cheah finished the weekend with mixed emotions and is definitely looking to push on for the last two races to make up as many points as he can at the finale in Sachsenring this 27th to 29th September. He will also make headway this December representing Sepang Circuit as its Wild Card entry in Races of Malaysia WTCR. Volkswagen Team Oettinger is supported by Liqui Moly, Pagid Racing, Motec rims, Recaro and Eibach
