PETALING JAYA: South Korean coach Kim Pan-gon has been tasked to lead the Malaysia national football team.

The appointment of the 52-year-old, who spent most his coaching career managing the Hong Kong national team, was confirmed by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Hamidin Amin on Friday.

Kim, who would leave his current technical director role within the Korea Football Association, is expected to arrive in Malaysia with his own coaching staff in February.

The Harimau Malaya had been without a head coach following Tan Cheng Hoe’s in the aftermath of Malaysia’s early exit at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup.

Kim’s appointment was not the only major shake-up of the national team’s structure as Hamidin also announced Yusoff Mahadi resigned as national manager on the same day.
