SMASHING SERDANG BC RULED THE ROOST AT THE AEON CREDIT PURPLE LEAGUE JUNIOR 2021/2022

Serdang BC's strong showing in the Under - 18 category (Group A) saw them top the standings with (376-265) accumulated points.

KUALA LUMPUR (23 JANUARY 2022): Serdang Badminton Club cruised into the finals of the AEON Credit Purple League Junior 2021/2022 (ACPLJ) when they notched a 15-4 win over Subang Jaya BC in the last leg (group stage) of the Under-18 competition in Cheras today.

Ting Wen Xuan stole the spotlight for Serdang BC when he made a clean sweep against Danish Iskandar (11-10, 11-6, 11-3) in the boys’ singles match.

Serdang BC’s Wong Chin Hong – Wong Chuan Chui were equally impressive in the boys doubles when they made short work of Lee Jun Jie – Syamsul Hadi in straight sets (11-7, 11-7, 11-8) in 20 minutes.

In the mixed-doubles Serdang BC’s Yap Juin An-Lim Qi Ling staged a dramatic come from behind win against Subang Jaya BC’s Wong Zi Yi – Muhd Bilal (8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-10, 11-8). The Subang Jaya pair had won the opening two sets, but their opponents bounced back strongly to wrap up the game (3-2).

In the girls’ singles, Tan Yan Yi bagged the victory for Serdang BC as she brushed aside Subang Jaya BC’s Wong Zi Yi (11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 11-7).

Lim Qian Thong – Tan Po Yee sealed the victory for Serdang BC when they outclassed Chang Yi – Intan Waheeda (11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-7) in the girls’ doubles.

Serdang BC’s team owner, Ong Hwe Hock was ecstatic with his team’s progress to the grand finals. He said all their hard work had paid dividends. “We have been preparing for this tournament since last year, despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. I am glad the players have been consistent in their performance.”

He added “However, I can see their hunger for more success I and believe that all the players will give their best at the grand finals next month”.

Serdang BC will be accompanied by Subang Jaya BC from Group A as runners-up in the under 18 category. Subang Jaya BC passed their semi-final hurdle despite losing to Serdang BC when they defeated Bangi City BC 11-8 yesterday in a mouth-watering match.

Completing the top four teams for the under 18 category are Group B table toppers Kajang United BC as well as runners up Rawang BC, who comfortably sailed into the grand finals after defeating Jinjang BC 15-2.

The ACPLJ 2021/2022 will reach its climax when all the teams clash during the grand finals from Feb 19-20 at the House of Champions, Gem in Mall in Cyberjaya.
