KUALA LUMPUR (14 AUGUST 2022): The second week of the 2021/2022 Biz Link Properties Purple League Corporate witnessed some exhilarating action at Setapak Badminton Centre as the teams continued to lit up the court with notable victories over their respective opponents.
The limelight of the day was stolen by “corporate badminton powerhouses” Top Glove Badminton Club and Oriental Real Estate as they guaranteed their spots to the semis as group champions.
The race is still on for the top prize as Dr KO & Perbadanan Putrajaya from Group A will be battling with each other while Senheng & Genting from Group B will be battling in their respective knockout stages to assure their semifinals spot on the 20th of August at Sports Arena Sentosa while the grand finale is scheduled to take place at the same venue on the 21st of August.
Beginning the match at Court 2, the dominant men’s doubles pair of Heng Kok Eng – Lim Loong Meng made a stellar start for DR KO when the stalwarts overcame Aeon Credit Service’s Au Chun Yeen – Azwan Bin Che Anuar 11-10, 11-10, 11-8 in the opening game.
Dr KO convincing run was halted in the second match as Sim Juei Kee – Ng Sin Er fell to Tan Ming Kang – Pung Yee Ting 10-11, 10-11, 10-11 in 25 minutes in the mixed doubles category while Dato Lim Choon Seng – Lim Choon Keong revitalized Dr KO’s lead by defeating Choo Kim Hoong – Mohammad Khairi 11-10,11-1,11-0.
AEON Credit Service’s women’s doubles pair Ashley Tang – Lee Kuen Yin inspired a comeback for their team by overcoming Dr KO’s Goh May Chun – Tiffany Chase 2-11,7-11,2-11.
However, AEON Credit Service’s hopes of turning the tables were jeopardized as Dr.KO’s stalwart men’s doubles pair Dhami Tula Ram – Soo Teck Zhi sealed their team’s victory by defeating Mohammad Syawal-Tan Jia Jie 11-9,10-11,11-6,6-11,11-9 in an intense 48 minutes match.
Dhami Tula Ram and Soo Teck Zhi’s match victory resulted to Dr.KO defeating AEON Credit Service with an overall game score of 9-8.
Soo Teck Chi, who’s also the team manager for DR KO was delighted with his team’s overall performance. The 2013 Asian Junior Champion said “I’m proud with my team’s performance, and I’m happy to witness the positive bonding within my team.
We have players coming all the way from Labuan and many parts of the nation to strive with us in this tournament. It shows their dedication and passion towards this sport. It’s time for us to sustain this momentum in the semis and focus on achieving our grand-finals target.”
Competing in the second edition of the Corporate League, AEON Credit Service’s team captain Au Chun Yeen was honoured to be a part of a prestigious tournament like the BLPLC.
“I’m thankful to Malaysia Purple League for giving us the opportunity to compete in such a reputable tournament. Despite our failure to not progress to the semi-finals, we are happy that our players were able to gain some exposures and match experiences.
I believe that with the inception of this competition, many corporates can discover new and fresh talents to be a part of their organization’s goals. Once again, my heartfelt gratitude to Malaysia Purple League for organizing such a great event,” said Au Chun Yeen
On the other hand, Oriental Real Estate became the second team to secure its qualification for next weekend’s semis as they overcame “electrical retailing” giants Senheng (12-7) in yesterday’s decisive match. Oriental Real Estate’s Ter Chun Long and Ter Chun Wei were the saviours for their team as they trashed Lau Yi Sheng – Pong Chit Pei 11-6 11-7 8-11 11-6 to secure their team’s victory in the men’s doubles category.
