The race for the ultimate glory heats up in the sixth edition of SRPLP
SHAH ALAM (5 OCTOBER 2022): The fifth day of the SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) witnessed some exhilarating action at the Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam as Ampang Jaya BC and Petaling BC booked their semi-final berths in style.
As expected, the heavyweights Ampang Jaya maintained their fine form in Group A after making hard work to triumph against Singapore Badminton Team 13-6 in the opening fixture of the day at 4pm.
Pressure were mounted on Ampang Jaya BC in the first match of the fixture when Tan Jia Jie was defeated by Singapore Badminton Team’s Marcus Phil Lau Jun Hui 11-8 5-11 9-11 10-11.
The tables were quickly turned in the second match when Ampang Jaya BC’s 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Goh Jin Wei inspired an influential win against Megan Lee Xinyi 9-11 11-3 9-11 11-4 11-2.
Malaysian elite shuttler Jin Wei who recently participated in the 2022 Vietnam Open was delighted with her match winning performance. However, she remained humble and said “I’m happy that I was able to contribute positively for my team’s victory today despite my current health condition. This tournament is extremely competitive, and it will be foolish to underestimate anyone. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ampang Jaya BC for trusting me and allowing me to compete along with such a reputable team.”
Ampang Jaya BC continued their smashing form in their third match when synergetic pair Moh Reza-Sabar Karyaman outclassed Hee Yong Kai-Loh Kean Hean 11-6 9-11 11-8 11-7
Experience shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai ended Singapore Badminton Team’s hopes of a comeback when the mixed doubles pair defeated Donovan Willard-Ho Lo Ee with ease 11-9 11-6 11-5 in straight sets.
The victorious pair who has contributed a significant point for Ampang Jaya BC said, “We are pleased to have won this match and helped Ampang Jaya BC to be on the right track in reaching its goals in this prestigious tournament.”
Ampang Jaya BC sealed their semi-finals spot in style when the world’s 4th ranked shuttler Chou Tien Chen easily tamed Singapore Badminton Team’s Lim Ming Hong in straight sets 11-8 11-9 11-3 in the men’s singles category.
Chou Tien Chen, who has an experience of competing against the best players in his generation was delighted with his team’s overall performance. The 2022 Tokyo World Championship bronze medallist said “I’m proud with my team’s performance, and I’m happy to witness the positive bonding within my team. On top of that, I love playing badminton in this country. Malaysia has some of the best badminton enthusiasts in the world and I’m thankful to Malaysia Purple League and Ampang Jaya BC for giving me the opportunity to compete in such an honourable tournament.”
Meanwhile, the final game of today’s 8pm crucial fixture saw Petaling BC securing their semi-finals spot at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting as they got the upper hand over Candra Wijaya BC 14-10. Both Ampang Jaya BC and Petaling BC will be fancying their chances against the top 2 teams from Group B in tomorrow’s decisive match.
The sixth edition of the SENHENG redONE Purple League will continue to take place at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam from the 1st to 6th of October. The Grand Finals will be held at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting on 8th to 9th of October.
