PETALING BC AND AMPANG JAYA BC BOOK THEIR SPOTS IN THE FINALS OF THE SENHENG REDONE PURPLE LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL 2022

Elite French shuttler Brice Leverdez opened accounts for Petaling BC when he finished strongly upon defeating Kittipong Imnark (11-4 11-7 11-8) in the men’s singles category.

The local badminton foes are set to take on the battle of Goliaths in the fiery SRPLP finals

KUALA LUMPUR (8 OCTOBER 2022): A nail-biting final is on the cards with Petaling BC and Ampang BC vying for the sixth edition of the SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) title at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting here tomorrow.

It was a heated clash in the first semi-final between arch-rivals Petaling BC and Sena Bangkok Club, which saw the local badminton giants win (10-3).

Elite French shuttler Brice Leverdez opened accounts for Petaling BC when he finished strongly upon defeating Kittipong Imnark (11-4 11-7 11-8) in the men’s singles category.

Known for his energetic display, Brice Leverdez showed sheer consistency as he only took 19 minutes to defeat his opponent in straight sets.

The zestful and exuberant player who ensured Petaling BC with an early 3-0 game score lead said, “I’m delighted to give my team an early lead in this exhilarating fixture. I would like to take this moment to thank the Malaysia Purple League for giving me and my team this platform in order for us to compete with all these experienced and notable players. I hope we continue this momentum and clinch the prestigious title in tomorrow’s all-important finals.”

The tables were quickly turned in the second match when Sena Bangkok Club’s world’s 12th ranked Busanan Ongbamrungphan pulled every muscle to inspire an influential win against Petaling BC’s Chinese Taipei shuttler Pai Yu-Po Tung in 11-6 11-9 8-11 11-5 in women’s singles category

Petaling BC got back to the game and extended their lead when stalwart pair Goh V Shem-Loh Juan Shen outclassed Sena Bangkok Clubs’s Kittisak Namdash-Tan Wee Kiong 11-8 11-6 11-4 in three straight sets.

The local badminton powerhouse club went on to secure the grand finals spot in style when their empowering pair Chen Tang Jiei – Lai Pei Jing easily defeated Yap Qar Siong- Atitaya Povanon 11-4 11-6 11-4 in the mixed doubles category.

The victorious Chen Tang Jiei who partnered with the 2014 & 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lai Pei Jing said, “As a pair, we are extremely happy for contributing the match winning point for our team. On top of that, we played well despite having to face a resilient Sena Bangkok Club side. It will be a tough game against our opponents tomorrow, but we will give it our all and go for the win.”

Meanwhile, the 3pm fixture of the day saw Ampang Jaya BC securing their place in tomorrow’s final against Petaling BC by defeating the defending champions Puchong United BC (9-5). The opening match of the fixture saw Puchong United BC’s Lee Cheuk Yiu took just 17 minutes to showcase a surprising win over Ampang Jaya’s 4th world ranked Chou Tien Chen 11-7 11-2 11-7 in the men’s single category.

Lee Cheuk Yiu who has the experience of battling his nemesis Chou Tien Chen twice this year in both the 2022 BWF Championships & 2022 Japan Open, felt euphoric with his performance. “I’m happy that I was able to kick start the gear for my team to qualify to the finals through my victory in this match. It’s never easy for me to play against a top player like Chou Tien Chen.

However, Ampang Jaya BC made an epic comeback in the second match through Goh Jin Wei as she had to put in the hard work to defeat Soniia Cheah Su-Ya 11-6 5-11 3-11 11-7 11-9 while placing Ampang Jaya BC back in the race with a game score of 3-5 in the women’s singles category.

Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani- Sabar Karyaman Gutama went on to tame Petaling BC’s Ong Yew Sin-Teo Eee Yi 11-9 11-4 11-7 in 17 minutes in the men’s doubles category to put Ampang Jaya BC ahead with 6-5 game score.

Ampang Jaya BC went on to secure the grand finals in style when synergetic pair Shevon Lai Jemie-Goh Soon Huat won against Tan Kian Meng-Goh Liu Ying in the mixed doubles category to give Ampang Jaya BC an overall victory with a solid game score of 9-5.

The victorious pair who has now guaranteed Ampang Jaya BC in the SRPLP finals said, “We were always ready to face a tactically strong opponent like Tan Kian Meng-Goh Liu Ying. We prepared for this in advance, and we’re delighted to emerge victorious against a tough opponent. We’re now looking forward to fight for our team in our upcoming final against Petaling BC.”

The sixth edition of the SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) final is set to take place at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting at 3pm tomorrow while the 3rd and 4th placing match is scheduled to be held at 11am at the same venue.
