AMPANG JAYA BC TRIUMPHANT AT THE SENHENG REDONE PURPLE LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL 2022

The all-Malaysian badminton club final saw Ampang Jaya BC creating history by winning its first ever SRPLP championship

KUALA LUMPUR (9 OCTOBER 2022): The SENHENG redOne Purple League Professional 2022 (SRPLP) closed its curtains today as Ampang Jaya BC showcased their dominance on the badminton court after a claiming 9-2 victory over Petaling BC in the final held at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting Sports Arena today.

Ampang Jaya put their stranglehold on the final proceedings early on when elite Chinese Taipei shuttler Chou Tien Chien breezed past Brice Leverdez (11-10, 11-5, 9-11,11-6) in the men’s singles category. Ampang Jaya BC ‘s smashing form continued in the second match when Goh Jin Wei defeated Pai Yu-Po 11-9 11-6 10-11 11-9 to give Ampang Jaya a 6-2 game score lead in the women’s singles category.

Ampang Jaya BC’s Moh Reza Pahlevi Ishafani – Sabar Karyaman Gutama added more salt on their opponent’s wounds with an impressive 9-2 lead over Petaling BC with a smooth (11-9,11-4, 11-6) win over Petaling BC’s Goh V Shem-Low Juan Shen.
With the unassailable lead, Ampang Jaya BC claimed bragging rights as there was no need for the remaining mixed doubles and men’s singles category match to be played as Ampang Jaya BC walked away with a cool RM 200,000 cash prize while Petaling BC took home a purse of RM 100,000 for their efforts.

Ampang Jaya’s team manager, Voon Siaw Yie was in ecstatic mood after his charges’ fine performances in the final.
She said, “Words cannot express how thrilled I am with this victory. I did not expect our team to achieve this feat and I’m grateful to all the players for producing a wonderful display in our glory to success.”

“We as a team will not be satisfied and rest on this victory as we aim to continue striving to work harder and return in the next edition to defend our title,” added Voon

Also present at Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting Sports Arena was Malaysia Purple League’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ho Khek Mong who reiterated about the importance of this competition and the tournament’s role in providing a platform for senior, independent, and professional players to gain valuable experiences and hone their skills by playing and training with many types of players, locally and internationally.

He said, “From our side we are happy that we’re able to successfully organize this tournament in a grand scale. We hope to attract more foreign teams in the future such as China Badminton Team and etc with an aim to boss the image of this prestigious league.”

In the 11am fixture, the fiery battle for the third and fourth placing saw Puchong United BC emerging victorious over their opponents Sena Bangkok Club (10-5).

Being one of the top teams that stood out at the end of competition, Puchong United BC took the lead in the opening men’s singles match through Lee Cheuk Yiu as he easily overcame Kittipong Imnark (11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5).

Tan Kian Meng-Goh Liu Ying were the saviours for Puchong United BC as they trashed Pongsakorn Thongkham-Atitaya Povanon 11-6 11-8 6-11 11-8 to secure their team the third-place position in the tournament while bringing back a prize money of RM 60,000. Sena Bangkok Club who finished fourth in the tournament brough back a prize money of RM 40,000.
